Weekly Wednesday Online Resource: Product Hunt

For today’s weekly Wednesday online resource, I wanted to focus on a website that aggregates and curates internet tools for day to day use. Whether you are an employee, an employer, or just an individual, Product Hunt provides daily lists of resources that can provide value regardless of what you are looking for. Every day, Product Hunt promotes new products or services for individuals to geek over. Mobile apps, websites, hardware projects, and tech creations are all on display.  Checking out Product Hunt is similar to going down the rabbit hole; you’ll never know what to expect and what you can find.

I’ve used Product Hunt in order to find marketing resources and how-to guides.  The other day, I searched through Product Hunt and found a curated collection of marketing applications and tools that cost zero dollars. The title of the curated list was aptly defined as “The $0 Marketing Stack”. Not all of the tools were applicable for what I was looking for, but it’s an incredibly easy way to see cutting edge software and applications that can be used for your business initiatives. I’ve found some other incredible curated lists of products and services for business owners and entrepreneurs. An example of a really useful collection is titled, “Buffer: Collections”, and it contains a wealth of information specific to what you need (Mobile tools, SEO Tools, Blogging Tools, etc).

Product Hunt is an incredibly popular website in the Silicon Valley and I happened to stumble upon it by chance. I hope you spend the time to research and explore the options they have to offer. I strongly believe that as an entrepreneur, you’ll have to continually search for new cutting edge products and services that can give you an advantage over your competitors. Business moves at the speed of light so if you’re not using something that can give you an advantage; it’s more than likely your competitor will use it for theirs.

Staying ahead of the curve gives you a competitive advantage. Product Hunt is a big part of being on the cutting-edge and I hope you derive value from the many ideas, products, and services that are displayed on that website daily.

Virtual Assistants and Project Management

In any business, an entrepreneur will always have to undertake some type of new initiative that spurs growth. It could be the development of a new product or service offering. Or it could be a redesign of your company website. Regardless of what the goal of the initiative is, business owners will have to manage their projects in an organized manner to ensure accountability that the project is finished. Project management is essential to making sure goals are met and timelines are respected. It isn’t necessarily easy to create, oversee, and finish a project exactly how you envisioned it.  Out of necessity, you will most likely have to take on some help to facilitate your development process.   A virtual assistant is a great choice to evaluate for making sure that you stay on track to finalize your offering.  It can be tough to delegate “ownership” of your project to other individuals; believe me when I say that I’ve experienced it for myself.  Some individuals get anxiety over giving away control of the process to other individuals, even if they are highly qualified. In order to get rid of that anxiety, I recommend that you let go of ego, expectations, and entitlements when you take on extra help. With that being said, a qualified virtual assistant(s) can be a great fit for your project development process.

If you choose to be accountable for your development cycle,   you can act as the project manager while utilizing virtual assistants as a team of workers that can help develop sections of your project. Or you can decide to hire a virtual assistant as your project manager point of contact. In that role, a virtual assistant would be responsible for overseeing your team, handling all team member communication, organizing conference calls, and ensuring goals and deadlines are respected through project management software such as Basecamp or Asana.

Every business owner needs help at some point of their entrepreneurial journey. A qualified virtual assistant is a great choice for entrepreneurs who are looking for assistance, but don’t want to incur the extra overhead costs that are associated with hiring a full time or part time employee. For project management, virtual assistants can be hired on an as needed basis or for ad-hoc projects. If this sounds like an appealing option for your current or future project requirements, please don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with me on my calendar solution. Its free and there’s no commitment except for a commitment to learn.
